A Year of Projects Update - week 10

I missed last week as we were on holiday (a tiny bit on that later)  - I was going to post midweek but then I came down with something and felt dreadful for a couple of days.  So anyway, it means I have lots to update on!
FO's
I started and finished a hat.  I bought some Malabrigo worsted so that I can knit everyone a squishy hat and started with mine.  I have since added a bobble and I love it - it is the ribbed cuff hat by the Purl Bee a free pattern.
In another finish, I have made this bag with my quilting cotton and grommets.  I have used it since and I love it so much that I have made a second in flower fairy fabric.  That one is not quite finished so I will post that one next week.  I have also made a batch of bags for my shop, but won't bore you here - they are in the shop.
WIP's
My socks from the sock blank are progressing.  I love the way this is knitting up and this will not be my last sock blank.  I am doing the blueberry waffle pattern and have done a fish lips kiss heel - I am now just knitting and knitting until I get to my half way marker on the sock blank (so that I use every last bit of it).
I am continuing with my smooth operator socks - I am much further on from this pic now as I have put in the waste yarn for the heel and am working y way along the foot.
I have done a little on my Xmas jumper, but not enough to show progress - I shall see if I can do some more this week!
Acquisitions
This came while I was away.  It is some Suffolk and shetland top for me to spin.  I have lofty ideas about spinning it and dying it!!  We will see.
I also purchased the Mina Phillips beyond Vanilla collection (sock patterns) mostly enabled by Ruth, who pushed me over the edge, and I am definitely eyeing up the new sock pattern by Joji Locatelli because I could do with more sock patterns....

I am very sad today as tomorrow we go back to school. I know I am in a privileged position to be able to have such a long holiday and to be able to do the things we do, but I am still sad - I love spending the time with the boys and just doing as we please for a bit.  Here are some highlights:

  1. Such a nice looking hat, all warm and soft. Your socks are so pretty and yes, we all need LOTS of sock patterns. The bag fascinates me. I love project bags.............I have a suitcase full of them. I don't think we crafters can ever have too many bags.

  3. I'm trying to figure out how to make my own project bags, so kudos to you. I've heard grommets are hard!
Enjoy the time. I should have become a teacher before my kids were grown. I missed all those summers!

  4. Love the hat and that project bag is great! You are so right you can't have enough bags and with lots of socks on the go you will need them. I totally hold my hand up and say yes I enabled you but I know you'll love them, perhaps we shall have to have an unoffical kal of them and Mina is running a beyondvanilla kal in her group for them...just saying you know in case you wanted something to eh cast on! Love the idea of the spinning and dying, I have those lofty ideas as well because I've my eye on a wheel this ages but I just never seem to get time. I love the holidays also and even though I'm lucky enough to be at home with them I miss when school starts and they are no longer at home with me so I understand fully.

  5. What handsome boys! I know what you mean, I remember missing my boys when school started. I love the socks you are knitting, especially the orange striped colorway. Your hat looks great. I'm trying to choose one to make now. There are so many!

  6. Oh love the hat, bag and 'soxes' (I think I may have made up that last word, lol). I am looking forward to seeing the spinning and dyeing (or dyeing and spinning) of the fleece.
Great photos of your boys and their adventures.

  12. One of these days you are going to inspire me to make myself some project bags. I love what you come up with. And you always have great socks pictured, but those Smooth Operator socks are really catching my eye this time around. I love how they stripe a bit differently from each other, but they so obviously belong to one another. And the colors are such fun. The whole idea of knitting from a sock blanks sounds intriguing. It's been fun seeing how socks knitted from them turn out. And what cute boys you have. I'm glad you enjoy your holiday and do such interesting things. It's always fun to read about what you and your family are up to in the non-knitting realm. :)

Term time is so full on that it has been nice to just kick back and chillax.

  14. Love the hat and the yarn. I need to order yarn for hats to make my sons for Christmas. Lovely bags and of course, I LOVE the smooth operator socks and your other pair too from the sock blank. You definitely don't let any grass grow under your feet! Your boys are growing and it reminds me of my daughter, the teacher and her 2 boys. She also enjoyed the time with her boys this summer so I understand your reluctance to go back but then there are those pesky bills that keep showing up in the mail and the fact that we get hungry every once in awhile! LOL! Have a good week!
