A Year of Projects Update - week 7

I love mornings like this.  A few years ago (probably more then a few!) I would have bulked at being up so early.  But now when my boys wake me they are happy to play while I do 'things'.  This morning it was putting the washing out and having a nice cup of coffee while writing this.We have had a reasonably quiet week this week - I put name labels into every piece of school clothing known to man - it took about 3 hours!
In crafting news, I got a bit distracted by knitting baby things for the stall, so I knocked up a new born giftset.
I have made a little progress on Curiosa, but yo probably can't tell - I have one more pattern repeat to go on clue 2 - apparently clues 3 and 4 go much faster!

Otherwise, we went to Hever castle yesterday to see the jousting.  It is a beautiful setting, so is gorgeous to look at and has lots for the boys to do.

To join us, catch us here.

  1. I love those quiet mornings, I'm a morning person by nature and quite often get a lot done in those few hours before everyone is up and quiet is about, sometimes the smaller children are up also and like yours are quite happy to play while I do things, I find we have the rest of the day then to do lots of other things together. How cute is that baby gift set, I can see those being a winner. How cool is that jousting, I have some boys here who would simply love the chance to see those things, this coming weekend we are having an annual heritage event, with vikings and normans and monks and all types of things.

  2. Mornings are my favorite time. Both my hubbie and son are night owls which means I get the mornings all to myself to sit with my tea. The baby set you made is so sweet. I'm sure it will sell fast. I envy your location that you have castles and jousting demonstrations. Not much of that in Minnesota with the exception of a Renaissance Fair once a year.

  6. I marveled at the ease with which you write "went to Hever castle to watch the jousting". You say it like it's a regular occurrence (or like it's always there for the taking). And then it dawned on me...here in the states (mid-west) we have many Civil War reenactments we can choose to attend, and on the east coast I'm sure there are different Revolutionary War reenactments. When we have the pleasure to attending a medieval event it's a, maybe, once a year Renaissance Fair and has that exotic, foreign feel - something from another land (which, of course, it is). I find myself now wondering if you experience the time of castles and chivalry in much the same way we experience visiting our own historical reenactments - real and relatable, in the sense that our forefathers actually experienced these things. Of course, reconstructed cabins, teepees and campfires can't compare to castles and knights in shining armor...but anyway...thanks for getting my thinker going.

  7. Hever Castle! Amazing to think that you can visit the childhood home of Anne Boleyn! We're pretty much Tudor-mad in Canada - thanks in no small part to Jonathan Rhys-Meyers I suppose! Hereabouts things more than 100 years old are pretty ancient!

I so love Curiosa every time you show them that I think I'd really better put them into my queue. I have the perfect yarn for them too, although I love that summery turquoise you're using!

  8. Mornings like this are great, aren't they? And that sense of calm from having some time to 'potter' around and get things sorted often has an impact on the entire rest of the day I think.

    Hever Castle sounds good!
